Encouragement from Our Ecumenical Partners

"The members of On Eagle's Wings have given the Catholic Church a wonderful opportunity to practice ecumenism. The missionary spirit of On Eagle's Wings is the fuel that helps many lamps to burn a bit more brightly in the dark night of our northern society....We also are proud to have such partners working in the same mission field. May that ecumenical association flourish for years to come to the greatest glory of God."

Bishop Denis Croteau, OMI.

Retired Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of the Mackenzie-Fort Smith, Northwest Territories.

Excerpted from "On Eagle's Wings in the Mackenzie Diocese", Oblate Connexions, September 2007.

"It is with great pleasure that I send support...in reponse to the grant that we applied for on your behalf. Please keep up your great work spreading the word of God and teaching people to take an active role in their faith and communities."

The Most Rev. John R. Clarke, Bishop of the Diocese of Athabasca.

The Anglican Church of Canada, Northern Alberta.

" I confess that sometimes I scratch my head at our church and wonder where its future lies. At other times (and mercifully not too often), I even despair. But then I hear and see God's people catching a vision for new ministry in a different way, such as On Eagle's Wings. And I see the Lord bringing things to fruition. Then hope is reborn in me, hope akin to what the prophet Jeremiah expressed: 'For surely I know the plans I have for you', says the Lord, 'plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope.'  (Jeremiah 29:11)

Bishop Ronald B. Mayan.

Synod of Alberta and the Territories, Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada.

Excerpted from "Hope Reborn", Canadian Lutheran, July/August 2008.

A Reflection on Ecumenism

When God puts us back together again
(With the aid of our willingness to cooperate)
This great church will be marked by
the dignity and scholarship of the Anglicans
the order and sacraments of the Roman Catholics
the warm fellowship of the Methodists
the Presbyterian desire for good preaching
and the Lutheran desire for sound theology.

There will be the Baptist concern for individual salvation
The Congregational respect for the rights of lay members
The Pentecostal reliance on the power of the Holy Spirit
And the Quaker appreciation for silence.

We will find there the Mennonite sense of community
The social action of the Salvation Army
And the Reformed love of the Bible
All wrapped in the Orthodox reverence before the mystery of God.
