When does Summer Bible School take place?
Summer Bible Schools run from Monday to Friday from the end of June to the end of the first week of August. Each Bible School lasts one week. Volunteers may sign up to teach one or more weeks. When planning to teach Bible School, always remember to include travel time to and from the communities.
Where would I stay?
On Eagle’s Wings' ministry staff arranges volunteer accommodations at the ministry base enroute to and from the communities. While teaching in the community, local people arrange accommodations. These may vary from camping in tents to being billeted in someone’s house or a church hall. Each community is different, so flexibility is important!
What about my meals?
Teams are responsible for providing their own meals for the week.
Who makes the travel arrangements?
Volunteers are responsible for their travel arrangements between home and the ministry base. On Eagle’s Wings’ ministry staff arranges for travel between the ministry base and the community. Volunteers should not make travel arrangements until their application has been approved and their assignment confirmed by ministry staff.
How will I know what to teach?
On Eagle’s Wings provides the Summer Bible School curriculum. It will be available online for volunteers to download and print after their team has been accepted by On Eagle’s Wings. Teachers will have lots of time for preparation. The curriculum includes suggestions for presenting the Bible story for each day, plus additional learning activities and crafts. Each team is responsible for their own teaching and craft supplies. On Eagle’s Wings ministry staff will conduct planning workshops that will help volunteers prepare to teach. Workshop dates and locations will be published on our website.
How will I know if I’m qualified?
On Eagle’s Wings requires that all Bible School teachers be 18 years old or over. Volunteers must be comfortable to live and work in a culture that is not their own, be able to work as a team, and teach high-energy children. It is not necessary to be a professional teacher, but some experience teaching children’s activities (e.g. Sunday School, coaching minor sports, Brownies, Scouts etc) is an asset.
The ultimate goal of On Eagle’s Wings is always to train local leaders to teach their own children. It is therefore necessary to be able to identify, encourage, and mentor local adults.
Each applicant’s pastor/priest will be asked for a reference.
What does it cost?
Costs vary depending on where volunteers live and the location of their Bible School assignment. Travel will be the biggest expense. As part of their travel expenses, each team is required to contribute $1250 (Cdn) to the GIGGLE Northern Travel Fund to assist with the cost of travel between the ministry base and the Bible School community. This portion of the travel expense is a tax deductible gift to On Eagle's Wings.
Other expenses include teaching supplies and food.
Consider asking your congregation to sponsor you. They may have some creative fundraising ideas!
How many people would be on my team?
The number of people on a team varies from 2 to 6 or more depending on the size of the community and the number of children expected. The average is 3-4 people.
Do I have to apply as part of a team?
We recommend that volunteers apply as a team because it makes planning and preparation easier. However individual applications are accepted and those individuals will be assigned to a team.
Can I choose where I want to go?
Applicants may request to go to a specific community but On Eagle’s Wings does not guarantee that assignment and reserves the right to place volunteers where most needed.
How do I apply?
Application forms are available to download from the On Eagle’s Wings website in early January each year. Copies may also be obtained from the Edmonton office. Completed applications should be submitted to the On Eagle’s Wings Edmonton office on or before the stated due date.
